Editor’s Note: This was a promo piece I wrote for Colorado comedian Brent Gill in 2016. It was the last blog I did for Best Comedy Tickets before stepping away to focus on my own stand-up career and trying to survive in Chicago. At the time, I was unpaid and couch surfing, and while I loved interviewing and writing about comics, I needed to pivot toward paid work and live performance. I felt this article—alongside the rest of the writing I had contributed—served as a solid portfolio to show what I could do.

Brent Gill is a Denver-based comedian with the kind of energy that fills a room and the kind of obsession with comedy that only a father might describe as “a bit much.” His stand-up is fun, fast-paced, and infectiously silly—he’s a kid in a man’s body, gleefully rebelling against the idea of ever fully growing up.
When I spoke to Brent over the holidays, he had just taken a rare break from the grind.
“It was nice having a break for Christmas,” he said. “My dad was telling me, ‘Brent, you’re going to burn yourself out.’”
Naturally, two days later, we were sitting down at his weekly Boulder Comedy Show at Bohemian Biergarten. Brent also headlines at Denver’s Comedy Works, consistently ranked among the best comedy clubs in the country. We talked about his upcoming show Infauxmation!, which was returning to New York City’s The Creek and The Cave—and why it might be one of the most exciting projects he’s ever done.
What is Infauxmation!?
Imagine if The Daily Show had a weird baby with @Midnight, and then that baby got into a bar fight with a history podcast. That’s Infauxmation!—a rotating panel of comedians riffing on the lighter side of the week’s news, plus a few oddball character appearances that bring the absurdity to life.
“We run the show at Comedy Works and take it to NYC and Toronto,” Brent said. “This time, I’m flying out Sam Tallent and Nathan Lund (from The Fine Gentleman’s Club) to join the panel alongside Henry Zebrowski (Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell, Dirty Grandpa, Last Podcast on the Left).”
Each show features brand new news stories, which means the jokes are never repeated.
“Every single show is different,” Brent explained. “I pick new news stories for each one. If you miss a show, you miss the jokes forever. It’s probably one of the cooler things I’ve created.”
The format builds to a "Headline Battle" where comedians duel for the chance to headline the stand-up showcase at the end of the night.
Why Watch the News When You Can Laugh at It?
Tired of being buried under a 24/7 avalanche of disasters, scandals, and political dysfunction? Infauxmation! is your much-needed antidote to doomscrolling. This is the news—but only the ridiculous, oddly specific, and hilarious bits that somehow made it past the editorial floor.
From Christian body-building swingers to Russian fish with human teeth, the headlines are real (we think), but the analysis is all absurd. Think Hardball meets Mad Magazine—with a strong side of weed and wild improvisation.
Yes, There Are Characters. Yes, They’re Dumb.
One of the show’s recurring highlights involves character bits pulled straight from the minds of comedians barely holding it together. Brent told us about a personal favorite:
“Charpie (Chris Charpentier) plays a Civil War reenactor who lost all his gear on the flight and had to improvise using stuff from Goodwill. So dumb and so funny.”
It’s this mix of stand-up, sketch, panel, and chaos that makes Infauxmation! more than just another showcase. It’s a living, breathing absurdist time capsule of the week’s weirdest news.
